About

Hi, I’m Lucy! I’ve been teaching for 17 years and an ESL/EAL teacher for the last 10 years. Almost all of my students speak Spanish as their first language and are at varying degrees of proficiency in English, from total beginner all the way to full fluency. Every day, there’s a mixed bag of challenges and rewards – my kids definitely keep me on my toes!

I currently teach mixed-ability students in 4th through 8th grade, but I do tutor younger students and sometimes have adult students, too. Like I said, it’s a mixed bag!

Over the last ten years, I’ve learned so much about language acquisition and how deeply identity and culture are tied to the language we speak. There’s a lot to dive into on this topic, and I plan to do that with this blog, as well as share my tips, strategies, and resources for supporting Spanish-speaking English learners in the classroom. I hope you find value here and will consider stopping by again soon.

Thanks for reading!
